My #1 Role ... Father

We perform many roles in our lives. My most rewarding one is of father. On this Father’s Day, I just want to give thanks. Thanks to the individuals who have most greatly impacted me and helped me to become the father that I am.

“Thank you for the kindness and the times when you got tough.” Fogelberg, D. (1981) Leader of the Band

Thank you to my parents, Amma & Appa, for giving me guidance and being models of effective parenting. Thanks for what you said and, more importantly, for what you consistently did. Thank you for providing a structure in which to explore different possibilities and build on a solid foundation of character and caring.

“You are my love; you are my life.” Davis, P. (1977). Sweet Life

Thanks to my best friend and wife of over 30 years. Seems like forever, you have been my love, contributing to my life in ways I could have never imagined. You have blessed me with three awesome children. Each with their own personality, but common in their desire to be the best they can be. Thanks for instilling that desire and providing a real-life example for them every day. Thanks for being my life partner in the parenting journey!

“People smile and tell me I’m the lucky one.” Loggins, K (1971) Danny’s Song

I cannot agree more and am so proud of our three children. Whether in school, sports, meeting medical issues head on, serving family and friends, or appropriately addressing work challenges, my kids perform in wonderful ways. The results are not always successful. However, they get better at learning and growing through the situations before them. Thanks to my kids for letting me share in their life experiences and continuing to develop as a father.

Truly, this father is the lucky one …

Happy Father’s Day to all who perform in the role of a parent.
