Happy!

Who deserves to be happy? Everyone does! The reality is that what makes one person happy will be different than what makes another. Do you know what makes you happy?

Pharrell says, “Clap along if you know what happiness is to you.” Have you really thought about it? What things bring you true joy? Recognizing the activities that energize rather than drain you is critical for ultimate life success. Take this week to actively track what and with whom you are doing your various activities. On a scale of 1 to 5, 1 being “greatest misery” and 5 being “greatest joy,” rate each activity and interaction. By the end of the week, you should have a pretty good idea of the situations and relationships contributing to each. The next action will be to determine what to do in response to your findings. Similarly, do you know what makes the people around you happy? Knowing will definitely influence the way in which you interact with them.

Being happy seems like a simple enough concept. Unfortunately, it is easier for people to focus on what they don’t want rather than what they do. During this week, be particularly mindful of what brings you true happiness. In what are you engaged? Who are you with? Be keenly aware of what brings that honest smile and sense of satisfaction? Being happy is not magic. It takes work. Actively tracking this will help open your heart and mind to better understand how you can contribute to your own happiness as well as those around you.

Enjoy the journey!
